Highlanders, ever walked past Rivera Library or Orbach Library and wondered what's actually inside beyond the books and the quiet study spots? Find out on Oct. 6 & 7 and get rewarded for it!
On October 6 and 7, the UCR Library is throwing its first ever Open House for students, and it's built like a scavenger hunt. Pick up your event passport at the front of either library, then set off on a ten-stop tour where staff members show you a service, resource, or space you'll actually want to use all year. Every stop earns you a stamp. Collect all ten and you'll walk away with exclusive UCR Library swag and snacks while supplies last. You'll also be emailed a certificate you can send to your instructor if they're offering credit for attending.
The best part is you get to choose your own adventure! Rivera and Orbach each run their own full ten-station tour, and seven of the stops are the same at both libraries, things like Course Reserves, Group Study Rooms, UC Library Search, and Research Guides. But three stations are unique to each building. Head to Rivera and you'll find Special Collections and University Archives, Gaming/Media Rooms, and the Leisure Reading Collection waiting for you. Cross over to Orbach and you'll discover the Makerspace, our Poster Printing Room, and the Scholarly Technology and Research Lab. Stamp your way through one library, or hit both and see everything the UCR Library has to offer.
No need to block off your whole day either. The whole tour takes about an hour, and it runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, so you can drop in whenever it fits your schedule. By the end you'll know exactly where to print a poster, book a study room, dig into the archives, or track down a librarian the next time you need help.
