SCUA Unprocessed Collections Policy

Unprocessed Manuscript and Water Resources collections are generally open for research use, provided they are not restricted. However, the Special Collections and Archives staff may need to delay access for a reasonable period of time to survey the records for confidential information and/or personally identifiable information. Therefore all requests for unprocessed materials must be made at least 72 hours in advance of visiting the archives. Please contact specialcollections@ucr.edu for more information or to request items from unprocessed collections.

Unprocessed University Archives collections are closed to research use. In select cases though, unprocessed University Archives collections may be opened for research with permission and prior review by the University Archivist. For more information, or to make a request to view unprocessed University Archives materials, please contact specialcollections@ucr.edu.

Researchers using any archival collection materials, including processed and unprocessed collections, may come into contact with items that contain sensitive information about individuals and/or organizations, and must understand and agree not to copy, publish, present, disseminate, or convey this information to anyone by any means. Examples of sensitive information include, but are not limited to, social security numbers, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, health records, legal records, financial information, etc. When researchers find any sensitive information during their research, or are unsure if information they have found is private or sensitive, they agree to immediately alert Special Collections & University Archives staff to its existence.
